Dinner Music

FlashBack is filling up the floors with dancers that cover the age gamut. The success of this group can be largely contributed to the variety of music and show being performed. A Lot of the music has been around for quite a few years now, but it is party music that has withstood the test of time. The truly fun songs are the tunes most everybody can sing along with! This band sets itself apart with the addition of floor show and horns. The night can start off with light jazz instrumental and end up with a full blown rock concert that always has the crowd screaming for just one more song!

FlashBack has been around for over seven years now. Performances include wedding receptions, retirement parties, elementary school concerts, junior high dances, high school proms, company parties, country club dances, outdoor festivals and night club appearances.

Dwane is the split personality of the group. He sleeps all the way to a show and all the way home. He is tremendously shy. But, once on stage, he dances and sings from the first beat to the last and Mr. Shy turns into Mr. Funk. Another member with a strong musical background, Dwane started playing the Trombone at Newberry High School and became Drum Major for the marching band. He continued his education at Lander University, performing with the concert band, jazz band, pep band, and Lander Singers.

Dwane and Monty began performing at Lander together with a small pop band called Class Act that managed to go on to win the battle of the bands hosted at Lander in 1988. Years later they find themselves together again with FlashBack!

Dwane works at a hospital in Columbia monitoring heart patients. He spends most of his spare time trying to stay in shape to perform on stage.

L.H. has taken the lead---- “guitar, that is.” His vast experience performing with other professional groups made it a very smooth transition adding him to the ensemble.

Playing the guitar is not only a hobby for L.H., but also a job. He is a music professor at Winthrop University in Rock Hill. He is one of those rare people that can truly say they found a career doing what they love to do. If you can’t find him performing on stage somewhere, then look out across the water and you might catch him with a fishing pole in his hand!

His academic background includes a B.M. degree from Winthrop University, a diploma from the Berklee College of Music, an M.M. degree from Wichita State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Memphis. Dr. Dickert has studied guitar with a wide array of teachers including William G. Leavitt, Jerry Hahn, Johnny Smith, and Lily Afshar. Dickert is active both regionally and nationally as a performer, guest artist, and clinician. Performing credits include work with such notable artists as Natalie Cole, Lou Rawls, Charlie Rouse, the Diamonds, and Ronnie Milsap.

Galen joined "FlashBack" this past spring, and has reunited with bandleader Monty Johnston after a twelve year absence from the stage. During high school, Galen toured the tri-state area with "Southbound." After college he started "the Coastbusters", and the "Majestics" with Monty. Now he is with Flashback. Musical instruments include Keyboard, Guitar, and drums. Other interests are the Boston Redsox. Which leaves Galen in a deep depression during the off-season.

Galens' real job is inside sales at Spartan Industrial Supply Co. in Spartanburg SC. He has a lovely wife-Julie, a daughter-McKenzie, and a son-Raleigh who are the joy of his life. Galen would like to thank Mike Graham for cutting his grass on the weekends so he can enjoy his time on stage with the rest of the guys.

Monty started playing music in the fifth grade. He was in the Indian Land High School band from sixth grade through his senior year. He continued performing music at Lander University where he participated in concert band, jazz ensemble, brass quartet, pep band, and pit orchestra. Awards for band include several solo medals, band captain for high school band, and most valuable member of the Lander Jazz Ensemble senior year. He Graduated from Lander with a degree in business administration.

During his senior year at college, Monty was given the opportunity to perform with a well known act from Greenwood called “The Swingin Medallions.” Post college, he returned to his home town of Fort Mill and began performing with part time groups that include The Variations, Class Act, The Majestics, and finally “FlashBack!” Musical instruments include Keyboard, Saxophone, Trumpet, Valve Trombone, Keyboard Bass, some Bass guitar, some Rhythm Guitar. Other interests include church where he attends and performs praise and worship music, riding trail bikes and camping when he can find a free day. Monty owns a family business called The Negative Shop in Charlotte. The shop is basically a service bureau providing film, scans, layout, etc. for local advertising firms and printers.

Danny is the most innocent of the group, as can be told by the picture on the left. He also has had an extensive musical training background. His career started in high school band where he formed a local rock band with some of his friends and, unlike many other garage bands in high school, actually performed throughout the South Carolina region.

After receiving his degree in music from Limestone College and Appalachian University, he entered the teaching arena. Danny serves as band director for Clover Middle School. His wife, Mary Anne and his two young sons are the center of his joy.

FlashBack has all but destroyed his favorite past time of hunting. But, when given the decision of playing drums or shooting deer, he made the only logical choice!

Darryl started his first “air-band” at age 10, and from there he never looked back. Growing up in the 70’s, his musical influences included the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and many other rock-n-roll bands. Being a true student of music, Darryl’s early rock-n-roll career has given him the opportunity to perform with various artists such as Mott the Hoople, Tom Scott of Pablo Cruz and many other local artists.

Darryl has a beautiful wife of 18 years named Lisa and 2 great kids Kylie and Will. He also lives and works in the Charlotte area. His “daytime” job is with CPI Security Systems where he is the Quality Control Manager in charge of overseeing both commercial and residential installations of security systems.

Darryl is also a founding member of Flashback, which is an interesting story in itself. It was purely by accident that he and Monty Johnson met. He was answering an ad for a working beach band and so was Monty, it wasn’t a good fit for either of them so as fate should have it, Flashback was born. When Darryl isn’t on the road performing, he’s with the family or he on the ball field with his son or riding his Harley.

You did a fabulous job! I can't thank you enough for helping to make last weekend the best weekend of our lives. I did not want the night to end!! And
neither did anyone else. I never expected a front man as perfect as
Dwane!

You were truely awesome! I know you don't particularly love Hibernian
Hall and I'll never know why you decided to come for us, but I am eternally grateful!

You had people dancing before the first course of dinner even arrived.
We couldn't keep people seated...it was awesome!

Warmest Regards,
Brooke and Trey Muhlhauser

The band was fantastic.  They were extremely professional.  They arrived on time, did a thorough sound check and dressed in a professional manner.  Their light show was beautiful.  They accommodated us with certain things we threw at them last minute, like playing a holiday song when Santa came in.  They danced and interacted with the crowd and many ladies left with a bit of a crush on Dwayne.  They kept the dance floor packed and many people commented to me, including my VP who does not give compliments freely, that they sounded terrific.  I couldn't have been happier with the band. ---
