Before moving to Charleston, SC, Nikolai spent some time in Key West, FL,
where a friend of country music legend Chet Atkins heard him and sent a tape to
Atkins. The result was an invitation from Chet for Nikolai to appear at Chet
Atkins Days in Nashville, where he shared the stage with Chet, Larry Carlton,
Mark Knopfler, Lee Ritenour, Marty Stuart and others. When Nikolai applied for
US citizenship, Chet Atkins was one of his sponsors. Nikolai's credits include both film and television soundtracks in Russia and the US. In Europe he has performed at The 30th International Jazz Festival of Finland; The Dresden Jazz Festival, Germany; The St. Petersburg Jazz Festival and The Moscow International Jazz Festival, Russia, and The Riga Jazz Festival, Latvia. Nikolai has also appeared at The Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. Nikolai’s music is influenced by Jazz and Swing music from many eras, Gypsy music from Europe, as well as the music of Brazil, his wife’s native country. Nikolai is currently performing primarily for weddings, receptions, and corporate events. He and his group are highly in demand and enjoy much repeat business from satisfied party planners in local hotels, resorts, and reception sites. |
Nikolai was born in Siberia, Russia. He
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Novosibirsk Music College and a
Masters degree from Kemerovo State University with concentration in jazz
guitar. He is currently working toward a post-graduate degree in Classical
Guitar Performance at the
University of South Carolina.
