Duda Lucena

Duda Lucena,
singer and composer from Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil) creates
exquisite, romantic music, reminiscent of all the great Brazilian
vocalists of the sixties who first introduced the rest of the world
to Brazil's unique sound, but with a modern freshness and
originality," wrote MARILYN M. GRAHAM, music critic for Destino
magazine in Los Cabos, Mexico.
At the age of twelve, he began composing his first songs with the
gift of his first acoustic guitar. When he was nineteen, he received
musical training and began studying classical guitar at the Music
Conservatory of Pernambuco, and at the same time began working as a
professional musician. Very quickly Duda began performing in the
best theaters throughout his hometown like the APOLO THEATRE
(Recife, Brazil), TEATRO DO PARQUE (Recife, Brazil) and TEATRO
VALDEMAR DE OLIVEIRA (Recife, Brazil). In 1987, Duda moved to Rio de
Janeiro, seeking more knowledge in a new musical universe by
studying musical arrangement, composition and harmony with Ian Guest
at CIGAM, a school based upon the Berklee College of Music.
Since this time, Duda has been influenced by and performed his
original compositions with musicians from around the world (America,
England, Cuba, Mexico) playing with them throughout Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil and Mexico. His compositions and performances are centered
upon Brazilian bossa nova, baio and samba but also incorporate a
wide variety of musical styles such as reggae, jazz, rhythm and
blues and much more. Always including his original music, Duda has
performed in a variety of nightclubs, theaters, festivals and
venues, such as SALA BADEN POWELL (Copacabana, Brazil) with the
Outrossim Musical Movement, the LOS CABOS JAZZ FESTIVAL (Cabo San
Lucas, Mexico), HAVANA'S JAZZ CLUB (San Jose del Cabo, Mexico),
CENPES THEATRE of the PETROBRAS Company (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil),
PONTO DA BOSSA NOVA (Copacabana, Brazil), MARIU'S CLUB (Rio,
Brazil), GARRAFUS BISTRO (Recife, Brazil), SANCHO PANZA WINE BISTRO
(Cabo San Lucas, Mexico) and many others.
Today, many ideas have matured and certain creative thoughts and
styles have changed with time, but his convictions remain the same;
Duda Lucena believes in hard work, good Brazilian music, and most of
all, his own original compositions.
